The Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development approved the funds last November. It's part of a larger EU co-funded project connecting Žalec and the town of Rogatec, near the Croatian border with Slovenia.
Most of the Žalec to Celje route will run along a high-water embankment and link up with an existing route from Celje to Štore and on to Šentjur, which in turn will connect to a 16 km long cycling lane from Šentjur to the Open Air Museum in Rogatec.
The whole route, when completed, will be a shade over 27 km long and will have cost just under 12.5 million Euro.
