V začetku tedna je v Kijevu potekal vrh EU in Ukrajine, na katerem so vodilni predstavniki Unije ukrajinskega predsednika Petra Porošenka pozvali k pospešitvi reform v zameno za tesnejše povezovanje.
V luči begunske krize v Sredozemlju, se je prejšnji teden v Bruslju zgodil izredni vrh EU. Na njem so se voditelji članic sicer strinjali, da je prednostna naloga reševanje življenj beguncev, a enotnega odgovora na vprašanje, kaj potem z njimi storiti, ni.
EU je nedavno državam članicam omogočila prepoved gojenja gensko spremenjenih rastlin, toda na drugi strani je skoraj sočasno odobrila 17 gensko spremenjenih organizmov, ki se lahko za hrano in krmo uporabljajo v EU-ju.

Predsednik evropske komisije Jean-Claude Juncker je v evropskem parlamentu pretekli teden predstavil svojo belo knjigo o prihodnosti Evrope, v kateri je ponudil 5 scenarijev.. Belo knjigo je Juncker najprej razprl v Sloveniji, med dvodnevnim obiskom je o prihodnosti Evrope razpravljal z voditelji in z mladimi.
