Spodbujanje zelene mobilnosti je ključni del evropskega zelenega dogovora, tj. načrta EU, da Evropa do leta 2050 postane podnebno nevtralna celina. Mnogi razmišljajo, da bi kolesarjenje lahko bilo del rešitve. EU je tako že maja 2020 napovedala podvojitev financiranja trajnostne infrastrukture, vključno z novimi ali boljšimi kolesarskimi pasovi na 20 milijard evrov. Nekaj evropskega denarja bo namenjenega tudi projektu Regionalna kolesarska povezava Kamnik – Mengeš – Trzin – Ljubljana.

EU komisija je ta teden predstavila zakonodajni predlog za omejitev krčenja gozdov. Slednji naj bi zagotovil, da proizvodi, ki se uporabljajo na trgu EU, ne prispevajo h krčenju in degradaciji gozdov tudi drugod po svetu. Mnogi menijo, da bi kolesarjenje lahko bilo del rešitve podnebne nevtralnosti EU. Že konec prihodnjega poletja bi tako lahko dnevni migranti v službo ali šolo lahko ob lepših dneh na povezavi Kamnik – Mengeš – Trzin – Ljubljana namesto jeklenega konjička koristili kolo.
