Last Thursday, the lagoon city became the first in the world to introduce such an entry fee, which will be enforced on 29 days this year. Access to Venice between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on these days requires purchasing a ticket online or at a booth for those without smartphones. While there are no physical gates, inspectors will conduct random checks and issue fines ranging from 50 to 300 euros to those without valid registration.
