However, meteorologist Blaž Šter said the adverse weather is expected to last only an hour or so and is to stop in the evening.
In the northeast of the country, the Mura river has reached a record water flow. Because of a broken embankment near Dolnja Bistrica, some 500 people from several villages had already had to be evacuated last night. Hydrologist Janez Polajnar added that they are anticipating that this increased volume of water will flow through Slovenia within 24 hours, including through the damaged part of the water embankment.
The water flow is expected to continue rising for about an hour and then remain high for at least 12 hours. As a result, the respective authorities are already preparing everything necessary for a mass evacuation.
The situation in the northern Koroška region is among the most critical in the country. Civil protection commander Srečko Šestan said that unfortunately, efforts to reach Črna na Koroškem by land had been unsuccessful and added their efforts to do so will continue. He however added air transport routes are in place and said phone service in the area had been restored.
The Administration for Protection and Rescue today canceled the plan for the additional evacuation of 110 people from Črna na Koroškem, after a huge landslide was triggered there.
