In 1926, the Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw was awarded the Nobel Prize, but rejected the monetary award, requesting it should be used to finance the translation of fellow playwright August Strindberg's works from Swedish into English.
In 1928, the first time, audiences can see the cartoon Steamboat Willie, the first fully synchronized cartoon, which was directed by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks. The cartoon included the second appearance of Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse.
In 2001 the Slovenian children's writer Ela Peroci dies.
