The municipality of Ankaran has launched a campaign to eliminate the use of plastic bags within its boundaries.

If successful, the idea could be rolled out across the rest of the country in the future.

The plan was created due to the desire of residents in the area to protect the environment, which is especially vulnerable to plastic bag waste along the coast.

Bora winds and non-biodegradable plastic being dumped into the sea were also given as reasons for the action.

Ankaran, which is the newest municipality in the country, will work in partnership with the Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning to implement its anti-plastic plan.
