The government has declared the 14th of August a work-free day. It’s named Solidarity Day. PM Robert Golob said he hoped the country would come together on that day and contribute to the flood relief efforts. PM Golob urged people to use the day to help their acquaintances, friends and neighbours in need. Since the following day, 15th of August, is already a holiday, Slovenians will thus have four days off including the weekend.
Meanwhile, aid from EU and neighbouring countries continues to arrive, in the form of heavy machinery, helicopters, equipment, temporary bridges and rescue staff. The massive floods and landslides at the end of last week devastated two-thirds of the country, and six people lost their lives because of the storms.
