Janez Gorišek, the man who designed the Planica ski flying hill, has died at the age of 89.
A ski jumper himself, he designed the giant hill together with his brother in the 1960s, and is considered a pioneer of ski flying. When the giant hill in Planica was completed in 1969, it was the largest such facility in the world. Two years later, in 1971, the International Ski Federation recognized ski flying as an official event.
