In celebration of this day, the International Cycling Union (UCI) has encouraged people to cycle at least twice a week and has issued a special challenge for cyclists to register their rides.

Several cycling marathons are scheduled for today, including the Junaki vinOgradov marathon from Ljubljana to Nova Gorica, which will result in temporary road closures.

Additionally, there will be increased traffic on the Vršič Pass due to the Red Bull Goni Pony competition.

Over 5000 cyclists are meanwhile currently participating in the Poly Marathon, the largest traditional cycling marathon in Slovenia. Marjan Kelner, the president of the Perutnina Ptuj Cycling Club, who organizes the event, says that after twenty years of successfully organizing the marathon, there are now tens of thousands of satisfied cyclists who happily return to Ptuj time and time again. Because of the marathon, there are currently some road closures in the wider area of Ptuj which will last until 2 pm.
