Austria unveiled the first bilingual train station sign in Austrian and Slovenian today. The sign in both languages was unveiled at the Bleiburg/Pliberk train station, where the majority of residents are ethnic Slovenes.
Present at the ceremony were Austria's Minister for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology, Leonere Gewessler, and the State Secretary at the Slovenian Justice Ministry, Milan Brglez. Mr. Brglez said the unveiling of the bilingual sign was a small but necessary step for the preservation of the Slovenian language in Austria's Carinthia region.
By the end of the year, bilingual signs are to be erected in all railway stations in municipalities with Austrian and Slovenian population.
