Today, 100 years ago the famous Slovenian writer, solicitor and politician Ivan Tavčar died. He is renowned to be one of the finest representatives of realism in literature and a politician of the liberal party. He was elected as the mayor of Ljubljana in 1911. He is best known for his novels Visoška kronika and Cvetje v jeseni.
He wrote more than 40 works and was active in the social and sports world. He even opened the first tennis court in Slovenia on his estate in Poljanska dolina back in 1897.
The Slovenian government declared this year to be the Tavčar Year.
