It was the 2nd edition of the rebranded Benelux Tour, which comprises stages in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg.

Slovenian riders were also in action on stage 2 of the Vuelta a Espana.

The rain-affected stage was won by Danish rider Andreas Klon of the Lotto Dstny team.

He dedicated his win to 22-year old Tilj de Decker, a teammate and part of the Lotto Dstny Development team, who died after a training crash last week. He had been tipped as a possible future star of the sport.

Three-time Vuelta winner Primož Roglič was involved in a crash around 32 km before the end of the stage, after slipping on wet tarmac.

His team, Jumbo Visma, then called for the stage to be neutralised due to the bad weather.

Defending champion Remco Evenepoel also criticised the organisers yesterday for starting the team time trial late in the day, it very difficult and wet conditions.

Monday's stage from Suria to Andora is the first big test in the mountains for the main General Classification contenders.
