Slovenia's most famous mime artist Andrés Valdés has died at the age of 86. Valdés was born in Cuba and came to Slovenia in 1964. He was the first and for a long time the only pantomime artist in Slovenia.
He was the recipient of many awards, including the Ivy Wreath for lifetime achievement given by the Slovenian Association of Theatre Artists, an award for exceptional contribution to the art of mime from the World Mime Organisation, and in 2017 former Slovenian President Borut Pahor gave him the Medal of Merit for his contribution to Slovenian culture.
