A park dedicated to the Slovenian national anthem was inaugurated in Kranj today.
The park will celebrate the present anthem “Zdravljica” and the author of its lyrics poet France Prešeren, who was born near Kranj. The 7th stanza of the poem, also called “Zdravljica”, which means »A Toast«, is used as the lyrics for the national anthem.
Meanwhile the park will also remember Slovenia's previous anthem, »Forward, Flag of Glory«, which is now the official anthem of the Slovenian Army, and its author Simon Jenko.
Both Prešeren and Jenko died in the city of Kranj, where the park is located. Present at the opening ceremony of the new park were also President Nataša Pirc Musar and the Archbishop of Ljubljana, Stanislav Zore.
