Stage 9 was won by Germany's Lennard Kamna, thus making him one of a select group of riders who have won stages at all three of the Grand Tours, namely the Giro d'Italia, the Tour de France and the Vuelta a Espana.

There was a delay and some slight confusion at the end of the stage in calculating the time gaps, as the final 2.6 km had effectively been nullified by the organisers due to the difficult conditions.

However, there was no confusion about today's victor, with Kamna crossing the line ahead of the remnants of a breakaway which he had been a part of for most of the afternoon.

Roglič moved up one place to 6th in the General Classification after yesterday's win on the stage from Denia to Xorret de Cati and today's efforts up to Alta Carravaca de la Cruz.

His Jumbo Visma teammate Sepp Kuss of the USA took over the race leader's red jersey yesterday and maintained his 43-second advantage over Spain's Marc Soler going into Monday's first rest day of this year's Vuelta.
