The deal sponsored by the European Commission was signed on 4 Nov 2009 by the then prime ministers of Slovenia and Croatia, Borut Pahor and Jadranka Kosor.

The pair signed the agreement in the presence of their Swedish counterpart Fredrik Reinfeldt. Reinfeldt acted on behalf of the Council of the EU.

The territorial dispute about 670 kilometres-long border between both countries has been unresolved for almost 20 years.
