The find, on a grassy hill known locally as Panorama, also includes a wall with a 1st century tower, revealing significant aspects of Slovenia’s oldest town. The excavation sheds light on Ptuj's transformation from a military fortress to a civilian settlement.

The Roman city Poetovio, first mentioned 1,950 years ago, was a major trade hub with over 40,000 inhabitants.
