Pogačar all but sealed victory at this year's Tour de France with his 5th mountain stage win. He had a perfect weekend in the Pyrenees last week, winning both stages, and yesterday he added another win in the Alps, up to the Col de la Couillole. He becomes the first rider to win five mountain stages at one Tour de France since legendary rider Gino Bartali did so in 1948.

Afterwards, the Slovenian world no.1 said that his team had not planned to go for the stage win but had followed the attack of the Lotto Soudal team of 3rd placed rider Remco Evenepoel as they tried to chip away at the 2-minute advantage that Vingegaard held over the Belgian in the overall standings.

In the end, it came down to another sprint between Pogačar and Vingegaard, who have dominated the last five editions of Le Tour.

Vingegaard had nothing left in the tank after setting the pace up the last few kilometres of the final climb, allowing Pogačar to sprint away without much of a challenge.

The mutual respect between the two was evident after the finish line, with Pogačar praising Vingegaard's comeback after a tough year.

Today's final stage will be a change from the traditional sprint on the Champs Elysees in Paris, with a tricky 33.7 km individual time-trial between Monaco and Nice.
