The 33-year-old sustained severe head trauma at a depth of 100 metres in a newly discovered cave near Cerknica on Saturday.

The rescue efforts, which were made all the more difficult by the cave’s narrow passages, took more than 30 hours and involved 57 cave rescuers from around the country.
