Yesterday's 172 km stage from Villarcayo to Picon Blanco was won by Irishman Eddie Dunbar. It was his second stage victory at this year's race.

Roglič has won three stages this year and reclaimed the race leader's red jersey on Friday, having lost it to O'Connor on Stage 6.

Overall victory today would cap a remarkable comeback after a heavy crash at the Tour de France in July, in which Roglič damaged his back, and a crash at the Tour of the Basque Country in early April.

It's the first time that all three of cycling's Grand Tours will have been won by Slovenians in the same year.

That's a feat that has only been achieved three times to date - by French riders in 1964, Spanish riders in 2008 and British riders in 2018.
