Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon held talks with her Italian and Croatian counterparts today in Italy’s Ancona. The three signed a declaration on closer cooperation in the management and protection of the North Adriatic region. Minister Fajon, Italy’s Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, and Croatia’s Gordan Grlić Radman, also discussed migration issues. Minister Fajon mentioned the threefold increase in illegal migrant crossings since Croatia’s entry to the Schengen area, and proposed the sending of EU Frontex border patrols to Croatia’s border with Bosnia and Herzegovina. The three ministers agreed that the issue of migration should be tackled at an EU level and that more attention should be given to countries of origin. Later, the three ministers were also joined by their Austrian counterpart for a working lunch.
