The Dallas Mavericks went into the game on a high after winning game 4 in dominant fashion. However, history and the odds were stacked against them as no team has ever overturned a 3-game deficit to clinch the championship.

Boston ended a 16-year title drought, playing on the anniversary of hosting their last Larry O'Brien Trophy in 2008.

Their top scorer was Jason Tatum with 31 points, 11 assists and 8 rebounds. Afterwards, he said that the win meant the world to him.

In his post-match press conference, Dončič said that he was proud of his teammates, coaches and everyone involved in the Mavericks' incredible run to the final.

He added that losing was a bitter feeling but that his team had been together for 5 months and he was eager to come back next year and 'win this thing'.

The Slovenian star will play with the national team in the coming weeks in the qualifying campaign for the Olympics at the end of July.
