His resignation comes after the anti-corrupution watchdog launched an investigation of the alleged irregularities in the selection of Raiven with her song Veronika as the country's entrant for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024.

According to public broadcaster RTV Slovenija, Vardjan offered to resign to ensure impartial fact-checking and out of concern for the broadcaster's reputation.

No signs of corruption had been detected for now, but the broadcaster said that procedures to identify potential irregularities should be carried out.
