A civil initiative opposing government plans for an upgrade of the rail track between the port of Koper and the Divača hub has collected enough signatures to secure a public vote on the controversial project.Until today, 41,600 verified signatures have been collected. However, the campaign will continue until the Thursday deadline.According to the Vili Kovačič, the head of The Taxpayers Standing Our Ground initiative, Prime Minister Miro Cerar's government has proven its deceptions when promising to Koper Mayor Boris Popovič a "fictitious" two-tier track in exchange for his opposition to the proposed referendum.The government project envisages the upgrade of the rail track after 2026.
The school year officially ends on the 24th of June every year ahead of Statehood Day, which is a national holiday.
