A giant balloon installation by French environmental activist Alban Grosdidier was set up near the parliament building in Ljubljana today.

Dubbed Lady Justice, the installation warns of a proposed EU directive from last year that would make EU companies liable for human rights violations and damage to the environment, the STA reports.

Živa Kavka Gobbo, President of the FOCUS Association for Sustainable Development, said that it is important for European citizens that such legislation is adopted, because ''we all want to live in a just world, since such violations of human rights also occur in the EU, especially in the south of Europe''. She added, that ''it is not necessary for people as consumers to act as detectives, identifying what does not cause damage to the environment and human rights''.

According to the STA, Grosdidier ''pointed to the many activists killed in the fight against the exploitation of the Earth's resources and the current situation where companies in the EU are not held accountable for human rights violations''.
