The number of newborns in Slovenia last year hit the lowest figure since record-keeping began back in 1922. Only 16,800 children were born in 2023, which is 5% lower compared to the previous year. However, the number of Slovenian citizens continues to increase thanks to a positive net migration rate. The share of foreign nationals in Slovenia now stands at 9,4%.
Slovenia's population stands at 2,123 million, which is 6,000 more compared to one year ago.
