The number of newborns last year was the lowest in the past 100 years, however thanks to positive migration rates the number of Slovenian citizens continues to increase.
The number of newborns in Slovenia last year hit the lowest figure since record-keeping began back in 1922. Only 16,800 children were born in 2023, which is 5% lower compared to the previous year. However, the number of Slovenian citizens continues to increase thanks to a positive net migration rate. The share of foreign nationals in Slovenia now stands at 9,4%.
