President Borut Pahor is in Poland attending a memorial marking the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Nazi concentration camp today. He is accompanied by Slovenian camp survivors.

In a statement, he highlighted that they are there to remind of the horrors that happened at Auschwitz and that it is our moral duty that we never forget and thus contribute to a peaceful resolution of all of humanity’s issues.

During World War II, some six million people died in Poland, including three million Polish Jews, mostly in concentration camps.

International Holocaust Remembrance Day coincides with the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.
