Slovenia observes Independence and Unity Day today in memory of the 1990 independence referendum. In the referendum Slovenians voted overwhelmingly to leave Yugoslavia with almost 95% of those who cast their votes voting in favor of independence. On 26th of December that year, the National Assembly declared the outcome. This year an official ceremony was already held on Thursday but today president Borut Pahor will host the traditional open house event at the presidential palace.
