Slovenia will start removing the fence from its border with Croatia today. The fence was erected in 2015 in response to the refugee crisis. Interior Minister Tatjana Bobnar said the fence was erected as a temporary measure and should not become a permanent element of Slovenia border policy. The army will start removing 51 kilometers of the barbed wire fence today, while the remaining 143 kilometers will be removed later by a contractor.
The opposition believes the decision is premature and was made without a security assessment or expert reasoning.
