According to the head of the Palliative Care Group of Slovenia, Judita Slak, palliative care in Slovenia is well-organized in some health centers, but in reality, proper palliative care is still inaccessible to many.

The World Health Organization estimates that each year, 40 million people are in need of palliative care across the globe. Only 14 per cent of that need is being met at the end of life and less than 10 per cent overall. Palliative care is well integrated into the healthcare system in only 20 countries. Around 80 per cent of those needing palliative care live in low- and middle-income countries with weak health systems.
