About 58% of Slovenia's surface is covered by forests. And yet, less than 1% of it is the old, natural forest. DOPPS-Birdlife Slovenia has decided to do something about this and has launched a campaign titled Caretakers of Natural Forests (Gozdni Specialisti).

On February 26th 1992, almost 26,000 people, including some 5,400 children, were illegally erased from the register of permanent residents of Slovenia. President Borut Pahor on Friday offered them a formal apology.

The 24th Winter Olympic Games in Beijing official closed on Sunday and they will be remembered as very successful for Slovenia. Slovenia won seven Winter Olympic medals in Beijing, which is Slovenia’s second best medal tally at the Winter Olympics. Two of them were gold medals, three silver and two bronze.
