Germany has officially admitted to committing genocide in the early 20th century in its former colony Namibia. German colonisers killed tens of thousands of Herero and Nama people in Namibia during its rule until 1915. Germany's Foreign Minister Heiko Maas acknowledged the killings as genocide, asking for forgiveness. The statement comes after more than five years of talks between German and Namibian officials. As a gesture of recognition and support, Germany has also vowed to help the country's development with 1,1 billion euros. Photo: EPA
