Slovenia offers assistance to North Macedonia after deadly fire

Nine European countries, including Slovenia, made immediate offers of assistance to North Macedonia following a deadly fire on Sunday morning via the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. Slovenia was set to take in up to four burn victims injured.

Digital cleanup campaign starts in Slovenia

Slovenia marked Digital Cleanup Day by kicking off a 14-day digital cleanup campaign. It aims to raise awareness about digital pollution, encouraging individuals and companies to declutter and restructure their online presence. World's biggest dog show ends in Birmingham

The world's most famous dog show closed at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, UK, on Sunday. More than 20,000 dogs from across the world, covering more than 200 breeds, and about 150,000 people, appeared there over the four days. The event culminated with the best in show competition. This year, the title went to a whippet from Venice, Italy.

Anora big winner at the Oscars

At the 97th Academy Awards "Anora" won a total of 5 Oscars, including Best Picture award. The film’s director Sean Baker, became the first person to win 4 Oscars in one night for the same film – for directing, editing, writing, and producing "Anora". Slovenia qualifies for EuroBasket 2025

Slovenia's national basketball team successfully qualified for the next EuroBasket, which will be held between the 27th of August and the 14th of September. In the last couple of matches Slovenia introduced a number of new young faces in the team, and analysts say the next European basketball championship might be the last big tournament for a number of key players who are expected to retire from international basketball after this year's EuroBasket. Jane Coyle

Jane Coyle is an award-winning writer, arts journalist and critic, who has worked across print and broadcast media platforms in the UK, Ireland and Europe. Jane has written three feature-length screenplays and five stage plays and is co-librettist for the opera adaptation of her play The Suitcase. The suitcase became her inspiration for the Farm Girl monologue which tells the story of a girl growing up during WW2 and the horrors of the concentration camps. A monologue which she has performed around much of Europe and Great Britain. This performance was made here in Ljubliana and was arranged by the British Embassy.

After the success of last week's first shop boycott in Croatia, our southern neighbors are mass boycotting stores again today. A boycott of stores due to high prices was also announced in Bosnia and Herzegovina and North Macedonia. Calls for a boycott have also been made in Slovenia and Montenegro.

Eighty years since Auschwitz liberation

Ceremonies took place to mark 80 years since the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp. Survivors said such human catastrophes must never happen again. Around 1.1 million people, most of them Jews, were killed at the camp during WWII by Nazi German forces. Auschwitz was liberated by the Soviet Red Army on the 27th of January 1945. Donald Trump sworn is as 47th US president

On Monday, the US got its 47th president. Donald Trump, 78, was sworn in for the second time. His inauguration was moved indoors to the Capitol Rotunda due to freezing temperatures — the first time that has happened in 40 years. In his address to the nation, Trump promised a new ''golden age'' for America and signed a blitz of executive orders from behind his desk in the Oval Office.
