The largest cycling event in Slovenia takes place this weekend. The Franja Marathon weekend kicked off with a time trial yesterday. This morning saw the 83 km Barjanka event and at 4 o'clock this afternoon there was a 25 km family cycle with a 1.5 km test ride for the little ones!

The main event will be held tomorrow with two versions of the route - a 97 km and a 156 km marathon.

This week will also see the 25th staging of the Tour of Slovenia professional cycling race. It starts on Wednesday and finishes, 5 stages later, on Sunday.

150 of the world's best cyclists, from 22 teams, will take part in the event, which gone from strength to strength over the years.

It will be broadcast on both Slovenian TV and Eurosport.
