Slovenia will celebrate 2024 as the year of General Rudolf Maister. The government made the decision as next year marks the 150th anniversary of his birth and 90th anniversary of his death. Rudolf Maister is remembered as the army general who established the first Slovene army in modern history, and who made key territorial gains in the Maribor region in 1918.
Maister was also a political activist and poet, who played a major role in the collective consciousness of Slovenians.
