The 70th Ljubljana Festival opens tonight with a concert of Slovenian pop songs at the Congress Square. The concert will pay tribute to Slovenia's poets who contributed the lyrics to some of the most memorable Slovenian pop songs, especially in the 1960s and 1970s. The singers will be accompanied by the Symphony Orchestra and the Big Band of RTV Slovenija.
The Ljubljana Festival will run until the 8th of September and bring over 80 concerts, opera and ballet performances. Some of the highlights of this year's festival will be the performances of soprano Anna Netrebko, tenor Placido Domingo, John Malkovich, the London Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Vienna Philharmonic, the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as Slovenian legends Vlado Kreslin and Laibach.
