Purple was the dominant colour in churches in Slovenia and around the world this morning, as Christians celebrated the start of Advent, in the build-up to Christmas.
The first of four Advent candles is traditionally lit on this day. The candles represent hope, peace, joy and love.
The Auxiliary Bishop of Ljubljana, Anton Jamnik, said that Advent represented a time of expectation and also of hope that it was always possible to make a fresh start.
