The 21st and final stage of the Giro d’Italia through Rome has finished and thanks to no mayor surprises, injuries or falls it led to a historic moment with Slovenian cyclist Primož Rogljič stepping on the highest step of the winning podium. The 33-year old is namely the first Slovenian to win the prestigious Giro d’Italia and he did so even with some mechanical issues at yesterday’s decisive stage. Before the race he reflected on the last few days saying that a lot of things happened, that there was a lot of long travels and early mornings but that they are now where they wanted to be and can enjoy in it. Briton Geraint Thomas from whom Rogljič snatched the winner’s jersey yesterday finished overall as 2nd and Joao Almeid from Portugal placed at 3rd.
