Slovenians throw away more than 100,000 tons of food every year. In 2021, an average Slovenian threw away 68 kilograms of food. About half of the food waste was generated by households. The statistical office estimates that 40 percent of the food waste was edible, while the rest comprised of bones, peels, eggshells, and the like.
