Slovenia's mandate begins in exactly three months, on the 1st of January 2024.

That mandate will last until the end of 2025.

The 15-member coucil makes decisions on international issues relating to peace and security.

There are five permanent members who can veto decisions, namely China, France, the USA, Russia and the United Kingdom. The council votes for five non-permanent members every year. Each one of those members, such as Slovenia this time around, is then given a 2-year mandate.

Slovenia will be represented by Samuel Žbogar, who is the former State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
