Many will involve reading the poetry of France Prešeren, who is considered the Slovenian national poet.

The annual Prešeren Prize ceremony will meanwhile be held in Ljubljana's Cankarjev dom tonight.

The Prešeren Prizes for lifetime achievement will this year be awarded to interdisciplinary artist Ema Kugler and painter Herman Gvardjančič.

This year's Prešeren Fund Prizes, awarded for accomplishments in the past three years, will be presented to six recipients: Trieste-based author Dušan Jelinčič, film and theatre music composer Drago Ivanuša, pianist Alexander Gađjiev, painter Nikolaj Beer (Beeehr), film director and screenwriter Matevž Luzar and the architectural studio Medprostor.

The Prešeren Prizes are the top national awards for achievement in arts.
