In near-perfect conditions, the first bunch of grapes was picked at 11 a.m. by this year's guest of honour, Edward Clug, the renowned choreographer and artistic director of the Ballet of the Slovenian National Theatre in Maribor.
The new Maribor Wine Queen was also crowned. That honour was bestowed upon Maruša Mukenauer of Svečina, a wine-growing region which is also known for its world-famous heart-shaped road.
This year, the 450-year old vine yielded 32 kg of grapes. Around 25 litres of wine is usually produced from the vine's grapes.
