After Lithuania and Portugal, Slovenia is the most car-dependent state among the 27 EU members. Cars are by far the most common mode of transport here, because public transport is considered unreliable and slow due to decades of neglect of the railway system. This means that Slovenians without a car are severely restricted in their mobility — a phenomenon referred to as “mobility poverty”, which mainly affects the poorest and people in Slovenia’s rural areas. If last year’s crops had been affected by drought, it was the frosty and rainy spring that this year contributed to the lower projections of crops, including fruits and vegetables. World bee day will this year honor Anton Janša, a pioneer of modern apiculture.
