Over the next 12 days, the largest Slovenian film festival will see the screenings of 99 feature films and 16 short films. 10 films will compete for the Kingfisher Award as part of the Perspectives (Perspektive) section, the official competitive section of the festival. Several feature films are vying for the award, including Deniz Gamze Ergüven’s “Mustang”, which won the top award at the Sarajevo Film Festival, “Son of Saul” by László Nemes, which snagged two awards at the Cannes Film Festival, as well as Omerzu’s “Family Film”.
The famed Avantpremieres (Predpremiere) section will showcase feature films that have won awards at major international film festivals. Meanwhile, the Kings & Queens (Kralji in kraljice), Panorama and Extravaganza (Ekstravaganca) sections will cater to avid fans of international film. Kinobalon is a special section for kids. The festival will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the invention of Technicolor and pay homage to the American director Hal Hartley, who has always had a strong affinity for Europe.
