In order to reject the changes to the marriage and family relations act, at least 20 % of registered voters would have to vote against in the referendum – according to a new law. Moreover, the majority would have to vote against the changes in order for them to be scrapped. The exact number will be known come referendum day. Based on current data, opponents of gay marriage would have to secure at least 343,104 votes.

A new definition of marriage
The aforementioned changes to the marriage and family relations act redefine marriage to mean a union between any two consenting adults. Hence, same-sex couples could get legally married in Slovenia, and they would be granted the same marriage rights as straight couples. Moreover, there would be legal equality between same-sex and heterosexual non-marital partnerships.
