The event was addressed by Defence Minister Roman Jakič, at the site of the battle on the Osankarica hill, at 11 AM. Also attending was President Borut Pahor, who layed a wreath commemorating the massacred battalion.

During the battle, the Germany army erased a 69-strong Partisan battalion. The latter was established in September 1942 in Dobrovlje in the Pohorje hills as a Partisan military unit. After conducting over 100 military operations, the battalion settled in a winter camp at Osankarica in December 1942.

Today's ceremony was organised by the Maribor and Slovenska Bistrica municipalities.
