Off-road cycling is becoming an ever more popular activity among members of the Alpine Association of Slovenia. To encourage its further development a Commission for off-road cycling within the Alpine Association of Slovenia (PZS) has created a circular off-road bike route. The trail passes through all the main Slovenian mountain ranges. The route is 1.800 kilometers long and tackles a total elevation gain of 50.000 meters.

"The basic route of the Slovenian off-road cycling trail is not that demanding, as our wish is to attract a wide number of off-road cyclists. Some parts of the route are difficult, in some places you would also have to push the bike, but you will never have to carry it. The trail takes you through trafficless byroads, field paths and forest roads. The recommended trails are rideable with well-equipped bikes in their entirety. Gradually we will also add shorter more demanding sections along the basic route, mostly intended for downhill biking. The route often runs close to train stations, as we also wish to encourage visitors to arrive at their starting points and return home with trains," stressed the head of the Commission for off-road cycling within the Alpine Association of Slovenia, Jože Rovan.
