On Thursday I went to check out the Mountain Olympic Village where athletes competing in the snowboarding, skiing, ski jumping, Nordic combined, luge, skeleton and bobsled events reside.
The village is just a stone throw away from the snowboarding venue
It was a long journey from Krasnaya Polyana. I had to change quite a few transport means to reach the well-secured area at the top of the Rosa Khutor Alpine Centre where snowboarders and free-style skiers will be competing for Olympic glory.
Tina Maze in a good mood …
A sunny day and temperatures still at a pleasant 6 degrees Celsius. After three days my feet have finally touched snow. The warm weather brings out the best in athletes. After her first test run, skier Tina Maze returned to the hotel, together with her team, in good mood. Laughter can be heard elsewhere as well.
... and the unlucky Jamaicans
A couple of hours ago, I wrote about the unfortunate Winston Watts and his Jamaican colleagues who were left without their equipment for the bobsled competition. However that hardly spoiled the mood of the 46-year-old veteran Winston Watts. These are his fourth Olympic Games. Strolling through the village with a broad smile on his face, he was giving away signed autographs to random girls that passed by.
They aren’t focusing on the problems
At the Slovenian House they were still taking care of some details regarding the accommodation. And what are the first impressions of the athletes' accommodation? One thing they all have in common is that the rooms are too small, there’s yellowish water coming out of the taps, and the food is bad. However all our athletes confirmed that this must not and will not influence their Olympic performance. We captured a few details of the atmosphere in in the photo report below.
