The vehicle caught fire at around 6:00 a.m. The front part of the vehicle and parts of the workshop have sustained heavy damage. According to the Administration for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief, local firefighters were able to put out the fire.
No-one has been injured in the fire, but the damage is estimated at around 500,000 euros. It appears that the electric train caught fire while being charged, and the flames then spread to the workshop. Police said that they have found no signs of foul play.
“Train met all safety standards”
Urban was converted into an electric train by a company called Stoja. Stoja boss Miro Zorič told the press that he didn’t know why the electric train burned down or whether it was the charging station or the train itself that caught fire. He stressed that the train met all the required safety standards. “Forensic scientists will now try to determine the cause of the fire,” said Zorič.
Second fire this year
This was the second time this year that an LPP urban electric vehicle has caught fire. In January, it was an electric bus that burned down at LPP. The bus was also converted into an electric vehicle by Stoja. That case is also still being investigated. LPP said that despite this incident, their busses and trains will run on a regular schedule.
